In a remote village of Azad Jammu & Kashmir, close to the Line of Control, children walk dangerous mountain paths each day to attend a school that is no longer safe to use. The building is structurally weak, with cracked walls, leaking roofs, and falling debris, making learning inside hazardous, particularly during rain.
Due to safety risks, lessons are often moved outdoors. The school has no clean water, electricity, or proper furniture, and children bring chairs from home just to sit during class. Despite these conditions, more than 50 children continue to attend because this school is the only educational facility available to the surrounding villages.
There are no nearby alternatives. Travelling further would require longer and riskier journeys through difficult terrain. For families in the area, losing this school would mean losing access to education entirely.
Hope Welfare Trust has launched an urgent appeal to rebuild the school and make it safe for learning. The project focuses on addressing immediate safety concerns and restoring basic infrastructure so children can study without risk to their lives.
Donations will be used for:
- Structural rebuilding and essential safety repairs
- Installation of solar electricity
- A solar-powered clean water system
- Proper desks and safe classroom spaces
The aim is to provide a secure, dignified learning environment that protects children, supports teachers, and reassures families.
A Hope Welfare Trust spokesperson said:
“A school should never put a child’s life at risk. Rebuilding this school is about safety, dignity, and protecting the future of an entire community.”
Supporters are encouraged to donate or sponsor a child as part of the appeal. Donations are Zakat eligible and will be used directly for the rebuilding and safety of the school.
For the children who risk unsafe journeys and unsafe classrooms every day, this project is not just about construction. It is about ensuring education can continue safely, without fear.
